1979 |
Viable Information Processing Systems (ViPS) is founded in Towson. ViPS Medicare System (VMS) is launched as ViPS' first product - a comprehensive healthcare claims system used in the processing of the professional payment component of the Medicare Program. |
1990 |
ViPS transitions from strictly a Medicare software vendor to developing client server systems. |
1994 |
![]() ViPS is acquired by First Financial (FFMC). ViPS introduces its leading expert auto-adjudication SuperOp® product to improve the claims payment process by automating many decision-making processes for healthcare claims administrators. |

ViPS expands products and services after acquisition by First Data Corporation (FDC). |
1996 |

1997 |
ViPS is awarded a national license with The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for its STARS® product, thereby making the software available to all Medicare carriers and intermediaries in the country. ViPS wins the Durable Medical Equipment Regional Carrier (DMERC) contract with VMS for processing all durable medical equipment claims in the country. |
1998 |
ViPS is awarded a significant multi-year contract for MCSource™ by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association/Federal Employees Program (FEP), which is the largest managed healthcare plan in the country. ViPS becomes a private company after its acquisition by one of the nation's largest private equity investors, New York-based Cornerstone Equity Investors, LLC (CEI). |
1999 |
ViPS is lauded for its high employee retention rate (ViPS grows from 220 to over 300 employees). ViPS celebrates its 20th anniversary. |
2000-2007 |
In 2000, ViPS transformed its image from being the Viable Information Processing System to ViPS, Inc. The new image identifies ViPS as a leading provider of innovative business intelligence solutions to the healthcare industry. From 2001-2003, ViPS has continued its proven track record as a leading innovator of healthcare business solutions, named one of the fastest growing companies in Maryland for two years in a row, maintained its steady growth and quality - driven focus and garnered unprecedented customer satisfaction levels. In 2004, ViPS is acquired by Emdeon, now known as HLTH Corporation. From 2004-2007, ViPS operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of HLTH corporation, and is its leading provider of healthcare analytics, technology and reporting.
